I’ve noticed a number of upcoming sequels and decided to cover them as there are quite a few that I’m looking forwards to. Honestly, the vast majority of dramas do not need, and shouldn’t get sequels. . Most lakorns are based on the romance and suffer from too much filler material, not too much plot. Nevertheless, there have been some sequels announced and I thought I’ll talk about them briefly as I do think some of the sequels sound promising.
The 2018 lakorn Girl From Nowhere (2018) won a lot of praise based on its tight storytelling, the varied social issues it dealt with and of course, the titular girl Nanno who was played with perfection by Kitty Amatayakul. I spent most of the time watching season 1 trying to figure out what and/or who Nanno was and being fascinated by her. Well now Nanno returns again in Girl From Nowhere Season 2 (2021). This lakorn airs on Netflix on May 7, 2021.
Synopsis: Nanno is back, doling karmic retribution to more students and faculty in a new season of this anthology series — and this time, she’s not alone. (Source: Netflix)
Not really a big fan of hospital dramas, but I do know that Korean’s Hospital Playlist (2020) was a massive hit with critics and audiences alike! No synopsis yet for the 2nd season that starts June 17, 2021 so here’s the synopsis from the 1st season. Looks like the cast, writer and director are all returning too.
Synopsis: The stories of people going through their days that are seemingly ordinary but actually special, at the hospital, a place known as the microcosm of life, where someone is being born and someone’s life meets their ending. The five doctors are long-time friends of 20 years who started their undergrad in 1999 in the same medical school and now are colleagues in the same hospital and have a band together. So I watched Voice (2019), the Thailand version which I liked and then I watched the Korean drama Voice 2 (2018) and loved that so I’m so pumped for Voice 4: Judgment Hour (2021). The series is about a voice profiler who solves crimes and her partner, whom has changed three times now but they’re all male cops with major issues. There are a lot of social issues referenced in the episodes, which usually end up tying to together to be about one big baddie they need to take down. This drama airs June 19 on OCN and should have 14 episodes.
Synopsis: Revolves around an emergency call center and the employees who attempt to fight crime using the limited information they get from the urgent calls they receive. Kang Kwon Joo is a life-saving voice profiler. Derek Jo, a unit leader at the LAPD who winds up collaborating with the Golden Time Team. A tough perfectionist who refuses to accept even the smallest mistake, Derek Jo will be a force to be reckoned. (Source: Soompi) (Source: mydramalist.com)
There are really no upcoming lakorns that I’m super excited about, but there are a couple airing that feature ‘revenge’ as the main theme, so I’ve decided to make a post about them! You’re welcome, lol.
If you can’t play the video, here is the link to the teaser here. Of all the lakorns I list in this post, this is the one I’m most excited about. It stars Om Akkaphan, who may not be the greatest actor, but he often has great chemistry with his co-stars, who in this case would be Sammy Cowell. This Channel 7 lakorn airs March 29.
Synopsis: Top’s aunt has him execute revenge against Rinlada’s family due to what happened to his mom in the past. He plans to ruin Natee Farm, her family’s business. He also gains her trust and makes her fall in love with him. Later he finds out he’s just another chess piece in his aunt’s plans, and a birth secret is revealed. (Source: MyDramaList)
Barb Ayuttitham (2021) airs March 22, 2021 on Channel 3 and it stars Boy Pakorn and Gina Yeena, hmm not bad. But it also stars Bomb Tanin, maybe as the villain? That… will certainly challenge Bomb’s acting skills. The trailer is all action, which you can watch here if it’s not showing below, but this MV does showcase the sweet moments between the couple.
Synopsis: Chidtawan go to the jail because was framed for what he had nothing to do with. After get free, he decide to take revenge any peoples who is the cause of this (Source: Thaidramatic_update) ~~ Remake of the U.S. series “Revenge”.
Sweet Revenge (2021) is billed as a romance, but that synopsis suggests that it could easily veer into thriller/horror territory. I’m hoping for a thoughtful, heart touching look at love and loss of love from this Fuji Tv production. The Japanese dorama airs March 22, 2021 on Monday, should be the usual 10 episodes. You can watch the trailer here if it doesn’t show up below.
Synopsis: Mariko who seems to have no luck with romance but is actually the president of a company named Sweet Revenge which helps their female clients take revenge on men who have dumped them in cruel and harsh ways. (Source: MyDramaList)
I’ve talked about this lakorn before, but now it’s finally airing!Girl2K (2021) stars Aom Sushar (Full House) as a 2000 year old woman trying to end her curse by falling in love with 1 of her 4 suitors, who are played by Off Jumpol (Girl Next Room: Richy Rich)), Fiat Pattadon (The Gifted: Graduation)), Toy Pathompong (Girl Next Room: Motorbike Baby) and Utt Uttsada (Chun Cheu Bussaba). Girl2K (2021) is airing Febrary 17, 2021 on GMM on Wednesday and Thursday. GMM may be English subbing this, as they sub some of their series and it has an English subbed trailer, so fingers crossed!
If you can’t play the video, here is the link to the teaser here. And you can find a song from the ost here. The trailer is a mix of comedy and drama, with a hint of tragedy here and there that it’s hard to tell what exactly the end result will be, whether it will be more comic then dramatic or vice versa and blend them successfully, but irregardless, I’m glad we’re getting more unique storylines and plots from Thailand.
Synopsis: Momay is two thousand years old. For centuries she has never aged, never gotten sick, never died. The problem is, there are four candidates. Thawin—her hardworking and generous boss, Khun Prom—their company’s biggest client, Kampun—a sweet young man—and Moo Tod—the dashing new guy. Time to complete my look back at 2020, its trends, and give you a heads up on likely 2021 lakorns in the works. I love this part of my yearly reviews the most actually. Of course, there are a number of lakorns that I’m really looking forwards to and have highlighted here. But there are many more lakorns I just don’t have the time to talk about, so yeah, this will be by no means a complete listing of 2021 lakorns, just ones I’m particularly interested in.
This year, I’ve already done posts on 2020 comedy lakorns part 1, part 2, historical lakorns andaction lakorns. Last year, I put all the 2019 English subbed lakorns in part 1 and if they were not subbed, but sounded interesting, or different and should be subbed, they were part 2. So you can check out these posts to see what you may have missed out on in 2019. So 2019 action lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here, 2019 comedy lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here, 2019 drama lakorns (slap n kiss included) part 1 here, part 2 here. 2019 historical lakorns here.
2020 Trends and News
2020 had two major trends that I noticed, lakorns with characters with special powers, and more and more remakes, not just Korean this time, but several from Taiwan, and so on. Characters could read minds, hear voices, see the future and so on, like in Payakorn Sorn Ruk, Leh Bunpakarn, Mue Prab Khao Saan Sek, Spark Jai Nai Jomyingand so on. And I’ll talk more about remakes in my 2021 lakorn section down below.
In addition, we had lakorns being aired simultaneously in both China and Thailand and an increasing focus on lakorns in streaming platforms such as Viu and Dimsum.my. All of this bodes well for lakorns in the future. COVID 19 also played a role in lakorns as well, delaying some and causing others to air earlier than expected and I wrote about it here and here. I expect 2021 to have more of the same, but hopefully the vaccines will help slow the spread of COVID 19 enough to mitigate most of its effects.
Praomook (2021)– Praomook works at a nightclub to earn money and pay a debt. She doesn’t get along with Chalunthorn because he misunderstood her, thinking she’s a bad girl. Treenutch, Chalunthorn’s ex wants revenge while trying to get Chalunthorn back. There’s also Maithong, rival of Praomook’s family and Chalunthorn’s fling. (Source: MyDramaList) (Source: MyDramaList)

Lakorns with favorite actors/actresses
Prom Likit (2021), the sequel to popular historical lakorn Bpoop Phaeh Saniwaat is supposed to start filming in February 2021, but who knows if we’ll see this lakorn this year.
Mark Prin is in upcoming action lakornGame Lah Torrachon (2021) along with Taew Nataphon and it is currently being filmed right now.
Miti Thi Sarm (2020) starring Taew as well and Nadech as an angel?
I like Weir, but do I want him to see him with his step grandma in Krong Nampueng (2021)? Eh, I don’t know about that. 😜 Although she does look really good for her age.
Many More Remakes
There were a lot of remakes last year, and not just Korean remakes either like WHO ARE YOU (2020), or Chun Cheu Bussaba. There were also Deja Vu from Taiwan, and even Motherfrom a Japanese dorama. 2021 promises more remakes of lakorns as well as other countries’ dramas.
Here are a few of the 2021 remakes I’m keeping an eye on.
So finally Thailand is getting it’s version! It’s about time! F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers (2021) should be airing soon, they’ve been putting out lots of teasers.

So it’s time to start talking about lakorns I’m looking forwards to in 2021. We have a brand old pairing in the upcoming lakornPraomook (2021) starring Pon Nawasch and Bua Nalinthip, both also starred together in Tra Barb See Chompoo. This is about a forced marriage and of course, I am excited! A Channel 3 lakorn, Neko has it on her subbing list, so I’m hopeful it will be English subbed😍🥰😘. No word yet on the exact airing date, but there’s been some material released recently that suggests it’ll be in the 1st part of 2021, so hopefully we’ll see it soon!
Synopsis: Praomook works at a nightclub to earn money and pay a debt. She doesn’t get along with Chalunthorn because he misunderstood her, thinking she’s a bad girl. One day, his parents ask Praomook to marry Chalunthorn to remove the bad luck from him. She accepts the proposal just to get back at him. He pretends to be gay to avoid her but she doesn’t believe it. They will eventually start falling for each other, but there are obstructions to their love. Treenutch, Chalunthorn’s ex wants revenge while trying to get Chalunthorn back. There’s also Maithong, rival of Praomook’s family and Chalunthorn’s fling.
I’ve just finished Stranger 2, and still feel in a bit of a drama funk, but hopefully this lakorn will change things around. Sunya Ruk Sunya Luang(2020) is a past/present lives drama and I’m all for it. Ngamnet Denkhun (Toong Sanaeha (2020)) pairs with Namwhan Phulita (Fak Fah Kiri Dao) in this Channel 3 lakorn that starts airing October 16, 2020. Muse has it on their subbing list, so it should be English subbed!
Synopsis: A story transitioning between the past and present lives.
The teaser looks really interesting! The lakorn looks beautifully filmed, and I like the special effects too, I’m impressed. This lakorn will air 3 days a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 🤞 Fingers crossed it lives up to the teaser.
Well, I was busy watching dramas and finishing them last week, so now I’m looking for what to watch next. I just finished Mia Archeep, The Romance of Tiger and Rose and Missing Persons (all were pretty great!) and now what? I’m still slow watching some dramas, but nothing I feel that compelled to watch. Time to catch up on what’s being subbed now in the subbing community. Maybe I’ll just try to finish more dramas this month, but regardless, I see a number of subbers are going back and subbing older lakorns, which, Yeah! I like that.
Thippy picked up two currently airing lakorns, revenge lakorn Fah Mee Tawan (2020) and horror lakorn Ngao Boon and is continuing to sub an older lakorn from before,Prao (2014) or Proud in English.

Neko also picked up a currently airing drama, Kwam Song Jum See Jang (2020), but is also continuing to sub an older lakorn, Baan Sila Dang (2015) which is notable as one of the few twin lakorns that actually feature twin actresses!
Kwam Song Jum See Jang (2020) – Pang is an ordinary girl who fights for justice, kind-hearted, and fights the obstacles that life brings her. Pang has an older brother that she loves dearly, but was separated since she was a child. It’s been over a decade since Pang’s older brother disappeared from her life. She confesses to him that her first impression of him was that she thought he was her older brother, but puts it aside. In the end, she discovers that he’s her older brother. What will happen to these siblings? (Source: Thairath)
Muse is currently English subbing just one lakorn right now, Duay Rang Atitharn (2018), after finishing a slew of currently airing lakorns, including Leh Game Rak (2020), Mia Archeep (2020) and Peek Hong (2020). Hats off to this team. They also will begin subbing a number of lakorns airing later in September and early next month such as Roy Leh Marnya (2020).
Duay Rang Atitharn (2018) – Worada is a naive and weak young woman. She’s the daughter of a rich man and his unlawful wife, even though her mother was the first wife. Her half-sister hates her mostly also because she loves Krit, Worada’s lover.

When she wakes up, she finds herself inside the underground shelter (that she and Krit accidently discovered and kept it as a secret). She thinks that Krit wanted to kill her. Inside the shelter, she is hungry, cold and tired. Before she dies, she makes a strong vow that if she is born again, she will be a much stronger person and seek revenge against the people who hurt her. Then she dies.

I’m still watching Stranger 2 (2020), but the plot is so riddled with legal terms and maneuvers that honestly I know I’m missing a lot of the nuances of what’s happening. This is one drama that you have to rewatch to gain a full understanding of. I might still continue watching Prom Pissawat, and So Wayree, but I’m not sure I have anything more to say about either drama.
