Mia Taeng (2011) features a lovely, strong yet soft-spoken heroine, or nang-ek, a handsome, but emotionally iq challenged leading man (pra -ek), the typical hysterical lakorn witch of an ex girlfriend, bitter schemes of revenge, and family grievances. In other words, a typical lakorn. But is it worth watching?

😁 Smiles😁: Love, love Arunprapai. She’s a great non-typical lakorn nang-ek who keeps calm, and collected. Although Arunprapai makes mistakes, she tries to face them squarely and not blame other people for her own mistakes, including that of marrying Kongkai. I appreciated the fact that she keeps her eye on what’s important, thinks long term, and she downplays things, rather than makes scenes. Soooo refreshing!
One of the things I liked about the plot was that there were a number of things going on that was related to the summary I provided above, but the plot goes beyond the summary. Actually, a big part of the story was centered around the conflict between two families, Kongkai’s family and his girlfriend Bproong’s family.
The music in this lakorn was also a real bonus. The soundtrack definitely enhanced the romance of the lakorn.
☹ Frowns ☹ : I know a lot of people would have a problem with the hero. He’s so obtuse and his actions, such as continuing to carry on with his girlfriend after his marriage, won’t win him many fans. I’m no fan of Kongkai, but I tolerated and enjoyed his character in part because of the way his stupidity was pointed at and made fun of in the lakorn itself.
The romance also seemed kinda lopsided. I could see why Kongkai goes for Arunprapai (who wouldn’t? She’s pretty, well-mannered, softspoken and intelligent), but outside of being handsome and a mama’s boy, I kinda don’t get why Arunprapai likes Kongkai. However, there is some chemistry between them.
The editing for the lakorn seemed rushed at times, and definitely not smooth. I wondered a number of times, especially at the end, whether there was a missing scene or something.
Final rating: Guilty Pleasure Galore
I suspect my score is slightly inflated by the fun I had watching this. I think I’ll have to watch it again to see if it holds up.
But the bottom line is that if you can stand Kongkai’s being an idiot, the lakorn is enjoyable to watch if you’re looking for a typical lakorn to watch.
