Music Monday

Hello and welcome to Music Monday! I’m so excited for the week ahead because I have not one, not two, but three different dramas I’m waiting for to air this week! I try not to watch dramas as they’re airing as then I’m constantly waiting for the English subs, but I couldn’t help myself because I was determined to watch Payakorn Sorn Ruk, It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and I’m counting My Husband in Law (2020) too although it has already ended in my must watch dramas.

Yes, I will be writing about them this week, I’m just figuring out what form, reviews, recaps, etc. But to get back to music, I wanted to introduce you to a great channel for osts and mvs on Thailand lakorns, Channel 3 Thailand Music. I’ve used them for Music Monday over the years, they’re the official channel for Channel 3 osts and mvs of their lakorns, so expect to see only Channel 3 lakorns here. Here are some of the mvs you can catch, including a young Nadech singing with Yaya. Enjoy!

Music Monday

Things seem to be picking up in lakornland. Several lakorns have resumed filming, some new lakorns are now airing, we have more coming this week and I’m really looking forwards to one of them, it’ll be Tuesday’s teaser. For now, I’m waiting to watch some of these new lakorns and talk about them here. This is one that’s been on my ever growing watchlist for ages, The Crown Princess (2018). A hodgepodge of topics this week, stay tuned.

Synopsis: The main heroine – a princess of a small country, comes into danger after her coronation. To protect her they send her to Thailand, where the main hero – a navy man- becomes her bodyguard.

Twins. Another not very favorite trope of mine, overdone and usually done badly. But when it works like in Lom Sorn Ruk? 😍. There are a few dramas and lakorns that does things right, and more importantly, it looks like this trope is not going away. Song Sanaeha (2020) is also coming up, starring Kimberley Voltemas and James Ma which also looks appealing and I talked about here.

Lom Sorn Ruk (2015) synopsis:

Nadech plays a twin; one is a doctor and the other one is a businessman. Each of them have their on love interest. Patarin is a young girl weak towards the world and thought that her boyfriend gave his love to her sincerely but realized she got deceived and was used as a tool. Now she has to pay for the things he left her to pay. One day she goes home to her birthplace in the countryside to rest and treat her deeply injured heart. Patarin meets and receives an offer from Pranon, a doctor who is an idealist to marry with him to deceive his parents in exchange for a large sum of money for her to pay off her debt. Nadech also plays the twin and businessman named Pran. Pran has his own loveline with Anna.

TOP 3 – Upcoming Historical Lakorns

I’m liking the fact that lakorns are becoming more diverse in plot and genre. A woman with a medical background solving mysteries in a historical period? Sounds like China’s Miss Truth (2020). But no, it’s actually one of several upcoming lakorns I’m looking forwards to.

1. Lai Kinnaree (2020) – This lakorn stands out for several reasons. 1. It stars Nadech Kugimiya, Yaya Urassaya 2. It takes place in the Ayutthaya period of time 3. It’s about a woman with medical knowledge she uses to solve cases and mysteries. More pics here and here.

Synopsis: The reign of King Narai was the most prosperous during the Ayutthaya period. Ayutthaya kingdom at that time has great commercial and diplomatic activities with all foreign nations especially the west. Everywhere was full of foreign immigrants, merchants, missionaries diplomats and military personnel. Foreigners especially westerners were backed to oppress Ayautthaya people causing the rage among Ayutthaya people. Lady Pudsorn is the beautiful daughter of a famous deceased doctor. She well inherited medical knowledge from her father. Aok Luang (Viscount) Indra Ratchpakdee is a handsome police nobleman who is responsible for the peace and safety of people in the metropolitan area. Monsieur Robert is a handsome French guy who closes to an important French military diplomat whom King Narai borrowed from King of France to work for. Faith brought the three of them to met and work together in investigating the suspicious death of an important French cargo ship captain who died while wearing female sarong cloth with Lai Kinaree (Half Bird Half Human) patterned which is the kind of pattern prohibited for royal ladies in the palace only. Therefore this case has the existence of Ayutthaya Kindom at stake because it may trigger the war by being claimed as a rightful cause for the French army to seize Ayutthaya Kindom. The investigation leads the three of them to many somehow involved people, many stories and many suspects which each of them has unexpectable secrets. Moreover, one of the suspects is a very powerful lady in the royal palace too. Besides that, the investigation also leads those two gorgeous and high-profiled guys to fall for Lady Pudsorn and both of them ready to compete to win her heart. What should Lady Pudsorn do? 2. Dung Duang Haruetai – This will be the 2nd remake of the popular lakorn and it stars Tik Jesadaporn, Kimberly Voltemas as the main couple. I’ve posted before about the detailed, if sometimes questionable fashions of the lakorn. It will be interesting to see if it holds up to the previous versions.

Synopsis: The story of three kingdoms. Kasit ruled by King Rungsimun is the wealthiest and most powerful but they lack a sea route, for this reason, King Rungsimun had planned to politically wed Princess Munisala of Thanta in order to conveniently use their water route. However if both Kasit and Thanta were to unite that would cause Puntoolat to become isolated and for this reason, the three kingdoms have longed lived with suspicion of one another. Princess Munisala decided to flee in order to escape the wedding because she had heard many ruthless stories about King Rungsimun but she accidentally fell into a trap and was rescued by Prince Tiyuttithorn/ Pee Chai of Puntoolat where she asked to seek refuge. Upon hearing the news of Princess Munisala’s disappearance and learning that it may be linked to Pee Chai, Princess Tasika feared the start of a war and so she made her way to speak to Pee Chai and got kidnapped by King Rungsimun and brought to Kasit. Tasika believed she was kidnapped as a hostage in order for Kasit to negotiate Munisala’s return and so she began at first to dislike Rungsimun. However Rungsimun had fallen in love with Tasika at first sight and so began their love story, but things get complicated as Mina constantly stirs up trouble, by trying to harm Tasika as she was in love with Rungsimun. Meanwhile, Munisala and Tiyuttithorn also started to slowly fall in love. Matters get complicated as Mina’s father committed treason against Rungsimun. (Source: Sharerice) (Source: MyDramaList)

3. Prom Likit – Not much is known about this except it’s a sequel to Bpoop Phaeh Saniwaat (2018) and the main couple of Bella Ranee and Pope Thanawat will be returning. Also returning is the director Mai Phawat Panangkasiri, but Louis Scott won’t be returning. This will have an opening ceremony on May 2020. It remains to be seen whether it will air in 2020, but is a couple worth waiting for!

Synopsis– This sequel is set in King Thai Sa’s reign (1709-1732) and will focus on Por Date and Kadesurang’s kids 20 years after Bpoop Phaeh Saniwaat’s ending.

What are your top 3?

More of Lai Kinnaree

I’ve posted before about this lakorn here, but here’s a little refresher. In this historical lakorn set in the Ayutthaya period, Lai Kinnaree (2020) is about a female doctor (Yaya Urassaya) and high ranking police officer (Nadech Kugimiya) solving crimes.

Thaidramatic_update recently posted on Instagram a post on more fitting photos from the lakorn, Lai Kinnaree. The costumes are colorful, with lots of detail.

I think they just had the fitting in September 2019, they haven’t even started filming yet so it’ll be a while before we see this one, but I do like the costumes and Nadech’s look already. And Yaya’s okay too 😜😊. I’ll be keeping an eye on this lakorn.

Fab Five – Actor Edition

We are still working on posts for lakorn newbies, this time, we look at Thai actors, basic info about them, what lakorns they starred in, etc. Last week, I discussed five Thai actresses here.

The Actors

Nadech Kugimiya – 27 years old Nadech’s acting bio is quite similar to Yaya Urassaya’s because they’ve starred in 7 lakorns together. Again, Nadech’s popularity exploded after starring in Duang Jai Akkanee. part 2 of the lakorn series 4 Huajai Haeng Koon Kao. Game Rai Phaai Game Ruk in 2011, again with Yaya, was another success. Currently, Nadech is starring in in My Love From Another Star. This will be only the fifth time Nadech has paired with someone other than Yaya, so a lot of people welcomed his new pairing with Matt Peeranee in My Love From Another Star.

Mark Prin – 29 years old, has been an actor since 2010. He worked with Kimberley Voltemas on Punya Chon Kon Krua 2012 and that cemented them as a popular koojin couple who now have five lakorns together. Mark has worked with all the actresses in the fab five except Vill, and he was paired on Phope Ruk with Bella Ranee. He also worked with Yaya on 2017’s popular lakorn Kleun Cheewit (earlier he worked with Yaya in Tawan Deard).

Weir Sukollawat – 34 years, has been in lakorns since 2006. He’s garnered numerous acting awards, works well with co-stars, and is quite prolific. Weir is one of the top actors at Channel 7 and as such, he has worked with any number of actresses multiple times such as Dung Duang Haruetai (2008) with Kwan Usamanee, Min Peechaya in Pin Anong, and Mai Davika in Roy Lae Sanae Luang 2013.

Pope Thanawat is 36 years old, and compared to the previous actors on the list, he got a late start, since he has only been in lakorns since 2011. He garnered attention in the popular lakorn series Suparburoot Jutathep. Pope played the main lead in Khun Chai Pawornruj, part 2 of the series. He starred in Samee Tee Tra 2014, a remake of a well known lakorn. But Pope’s biggest success was in Bpoop Phaeh Saniwaat with Bella Ranee.

James Jirayu – 26 years old, was also part of the popular lakorn series Suparburoot Jutathep along with Pope. James played the main lead in Khun Chai Puttipat, part 3 of the series. Like Mark Prin, James has worked with all the Fab Five actresses except Vill. He worked with Yaya in 2015’s version of Neung Nai Suang. Game Sanaeha had him working with Taew.
