What’s Next – Chor Malila?

Chor Malila (2020) is adapted from a novel and stars big names such as Tik Jesadaporn, Son Yuke and Yam Matira. The English title is Jasmine Bouquet and it’s a past and present lakorn with a ghost in it. Of course!

Synopsis: Poomtai works as a government secretary and he’s assigned to repair an old building located not far from his office. There he finds documents, personal belongings and photographs of Jaokhun Saymamuang and his wife, Lady Pinmuang. He decides to transfer the finds to the museum, but suddenly the spirit of Pinmuang appears and stops him. She tells Poomtai the story of her life. Pin and Jaokhun fell in love with each other, and although there were difficulties on their way, they still got married. 7 years later, Pirath, Pin’s childhood friend, comes back from England. They get closer again, and although Pin is now a married woman, Pirath secretly falls in love with her. Lady Sae, Jaokhun’s mother, dislikes Pin and tries to match her son with Pragai, her adopted child to be Jaokhun’s mistress. Jaokhun does not particularly mind, but Pin cannot accept this situation. Things get worse when Jaokhun goes on a business trip to the province, and Pragai follows him. Considering that her husband accepted Pragai as his mistress and forgot about his wife, Pin seeks confort from Pirath. However, Jaokhun mistakenly believes that his wife is cheating on him, driving her out of the house and divorcing her. The disgraced Pin returns to his mother’s house and stops all communication with Pirath. Later, she dies, but her spirit, feeling guilty in front of her husband, stays in their house ready to forgive him and explain everything.

What’s Next? Sapai Jao Sua (2021)

Sapai Jao Sua (2021) is a remake of a 2010 lakorn of the same name. It features my favorite trope, marriage of convenience, so of course I’m interested! This is going to be on Channel 3 and stars Ohm Kanin, Prim Prima (Mia Archeep) and Prim Prima (Sai Tarn Hua Jai). This will be released on April 7 2021, airing five days a week on Channel 3, and at least this lakorn is on Neko’s English subbing list so it should be English subbed.

Synopsis: Tien, a Chinese-Thai business tycoon and his wife, Liu had four sons – Traipob, Traitep, Traipoom , and Traiwit. Tien had planned his sons’ lives from what they should study to whom they should be married to without caring about their willingness. Traitep got married with Ruengrin and Traipoom got married with Wallapa, while Traipob who was very religious, chose to stay single.

All of Tein’s three sons helped Tien in his textile business but Traiwit, the youngest son, didn’t want to be like his older brothers. He decided to become a policeman, and left his home to move to the North-Eastern part of Thailand. There, he met Fahsai, the country girl who was a developer of her hometown. Traiwit didn’t reveal his identity at first, so Fahsai thought Traiwit was trying to trick people in her hometown and didn’t like him.

Traiwit was transferred back to Bangkok, so he hired Fahsai to marry him and to help him fight against his father. He brought her back home to try to make his dad accept what he wanted to be. Tien couldn’t accept Fahsai and tried every way to get her out of the house with the help of Ruengrin and Orn-nisha, the girl that Tien wanted to match up with Traiwit. Fahsai had to strive to win Tien’s heart, while she and Traiwit started to have real feelings for each other. (Source: MyDramaList)

Sapai Jao Sua (2020) has a little twist, a disapproving father instead of a villainous mom. Honestly, how many dramas are there with this trope? I oughta make a list about it. The Chinese Tycoon’s Daughter-in-Law is the English title, so I wonder if the Chinese heritage will play a part in the new remake. Here is the link to the teaser if you can’t see it above, and here is another teaser too. Also, this mv shows a lot details from the show.

What’s Next? Truth or Dare?

Another day, another marriage drama. Chinese drama Truth or Dare (2020) is a historical costume drama based on a novel about a couple of girls who step into the wrong carriage. It stars Teresa Li (My Classmate from Far Far Away), and Huang Jun Jie (Dr. Cutie) and should have 34 episodes. They released a trailer some months ago, but no news of a firm airing date of now, but I’ve waited to talk about this drama and didn’t want to wait longer.

Synopsis: A story that follows two couples who mistakenly find themselves in a marriage they never expected and gradually grow in love and trust over time. The cheerful and clever Xiao Wanzi grew up as a street performer with her dad selling their special skill of breaking a big stone on the chest. An unexpected encounter utterly changes Xiao Wangzi’s life. Xiao Wanzi who neither knew how to read nor write suddenly finds herself becoming a princess. Opposed to marrying the princess, Mei Sanshao pushes Xiao Wanzi away in hopes that she’d willingly retreat. Meanwhile, the king has arranged a marriage for Lu Yingyao, the daughter of the 9th prince. However, bandit Xiao Baoye mistakenly takes her as his wife.

Truth or Dare (2020) is the remake of 2001 Chinese drama Wrong Carriage, Right Groom (2001), which I’ve heard praised by a number of people, but unfortunately it’s not English subbed (there are a couple of subbed episodes on Youtube, but that’s it). This is a Mango TV drama and since they have a lot of their dramas English subbed on Youtube, hopefully this will be one of them, so check it out!

Hoping to save the clan through a marriage alliance, Shiyiniang is selected to become the wife of Yongping Duke and great general Xu Lingyi. What’s Next? Rebirth For You (2021)

Really loving the pics from yet another Chinese drama about a married couple, this time it’s Rebirth For You (2021). You might have seen female lead Ju Jing Yi in The Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion and male lead Joseph Zeng from The Journey Across the Night (2020). This is a new pairing for the couple, but both the director Zhi Lei and the screenwriter Ju Fang Fang have worked with Ju Jing Yi before. I already love the stills from this drama so looking forwards to it. This is a Tencent production that has no air date yet, but hopefully will be English subbed.

Synopsis: Story of how Jiang Baoning uses her capability to balance the different forces in the imperial court, and together with her husband Li Qian, helps the young Emperor stabilize the court and create a peaceful golden era. (Source: DramaWiki) *Adapted from novel of the same name by Zhi Zhi

Directors are Cheng Yuan Hai (Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace), and
Hou Yong (A World Without Thieves). No word yet on the screenwriter, but I’m hoping Rebirth For You (2021) is another great palace drama akin to my favorite Story of Yanxi Palace (which was 70 episodes and mostly mesmerizing in spite of that fact).

What’s Next? Wong Wien Hua Jai (2021)

Looks like the first slap and kiss of 2021, so Wong Wien Hua Jai (2021) starring Porche Saran (Sai Lohit (2018)) and Now Tisanart (Duang Jai Kabot (2019)), who both starred together in (Sai Lohit (2018)). The remake is a slap and kiss about a guy who marries? a girl to keep her from interfering with his sister’s marriage. The orginal lakorn aired in 1984, and there was a popular remake in 2009 Wong Wien Hua Jai which starred Weir Sukollawat and Pinky Savika. Airing January 21, 2021 on Channel 7 on Wednesday and Thursday. Thippy will be English subbing this.

What’s Next? Praomook

So it’s time to start talking about lakorns I’m looking forwards to in 2021. This is about a forced marriage and of course, I am excited! A Channel 3 lakorn, Neko has it on her subbing list, so I’m hopeful it will be English subbed😍🥰😘. No word yet on the exact airing date, but there’s been some material released recently that suggests it’ll be in the 1st part of 2021, so hopefully we’ll see it soon!

Tuesday’s Teaser: Shitteru Waifu (2021)

Second chances. One thing I love about remakes is that they give you a second chance to try to enjoy a drama. In the case of upcoming Japanese dorama Shitteru Waifu (2021), it’s a remake of Korean 2018 hit Familiar Wife (2018). This Japanese dorama stars
Ohkura Tadayoshi
and Hirose Alice as the married couple who get a second chance and Shitteru Waifu (2021) starts airing January 7, 2021 on Fuji tv. No word yet on whether someone will English sub this dorama, but it should be English subbed as the original drama was popular.

Synopsis: Unhappily married, Motoharu, travels back in time, only to learn that he is married to another woman. (Source: MyDramaList)

(Source: mydramalist.com)
Source: FujiTVs’s YT channel

I liked the plot of Familiar Wife (2018), basically about a married man learning to revalue his family, but when I tried to watch, I found it more cloying and unrealistic then meaningful or heartwarming. The overblown comedy is still present in the teaser, but this dorama will probably be 11 episodes less than an hour each and that might make for more tighter, cohesive storytelling. Or not. Time will tell, but I’m looking forward to watching this dorama.

What’s Next? Mia Jum Pen (2021)

I’ve written before about upcoming lakorn remake Mia Jum Pen (2021)) that stars Mai Warit (Mia Archeep) and Pie Rinrada (Krong Karm), but now it’s actually getting ready to air!!! So yes, this will be on Channel 3 starting on January 4 (correction this will star airing on January 22, 2021. This is another marriage lakorn and I’ve loved the chemistry between this couple so far, and the teaser is funny. This looks like a winner. Neko should be subbing this one.

Synopsis: Tawan live with Yuanjai, aunt in law and her daughter Yardfah as servant. Yhod, her uncle once made promise with his friend Trong to set their child marriage. Yhardfah refuse it, think that Tomorn, Trong’s son, is rustic and poor guy, also being in relationship with Bunlaeng. They don’t make any money, just spend Yuanjai’s money. One day, Tomorn gives his hand to pay a debt for Yuanjai, so she let Tawan to marry him as Yhardfah. Because of telling that he hate liar, Tawan start feeling awkward about this. At Tomorn’s house, she’s always bullied by Sawai, his mother, Gingkaew, nanny of his sister and Sopit, his friend who crush on him (Source:thaidramatic_update). (Source: MyDramaList)
