Tuesday’s Teaser: Trab Fah Mee Tawan

Another Channel 3 lakorn I’m interested in. Honestly think they’re my favorite Thai channel, outside of GMM which I love just because they English sub lots of their lakorns! Trab Fah Mee Tawan stars Mark Prin, who is having a busy 2020, after starring in no lakorns in 2019 and one in 2018. This will be his 2nd lakorn of the year, Trab Fah Mee Tawan (2020). Kao Supassara is the nang’ek in this lakorn. It airs November 19, 2020. Hopefully this will be English subbed.

Synopsis: Fahmai moved into Arthit’s house after her parents died. She knew she was going to get kicked out of the house so one day, she set up a plan to get Arthit into bed. Instead, Arthit stormed out of the house and got into an accident. He survived but his hate for her grew. She was sent abroad for 4 years then 4 years later, she returned because she made a promise to his parents. She thought time will heal all wounds but that wasn’t the case, instead, it intensified even more. (Source: MarkimPhilippines at Facebook) (Source: MyDramaList)

Kao Supassara is the nang’ek here, and I’m wondering from her clothes if she plays another tomboy character like she did in Kao Waan Hai Noo Pen Sai Lub. I hope not. This seems similar to Mark’s other 2020 lakorn too, My Husband in Law, where the leads meet each other young and grow up together. Here, it looks like the pra’ek hates the nang’ek for a reason, where as in MHIL, the pra’ek didn’t really have a reason to treat the nang’ek badly. The English titles are As Long as the Sky Has The Sun, and My Forever Sunshine which sounds very romantic, so let’s hope we get a lovely romance in this lakorn.

What’s Next? Shanai Marriage Honey (2020)

It seems like more and more dramas are being made from manga, webcomics, and novels in Japan and elsewhere. Not a bad thing, but this particular Japanese drama or dorama also has a marriage without love plot, so of course it’s going on my to watch list 😉. Shanai Marriage Honey (2020) stars Itagaki Mizuki (Sixteen Shoukougun (2020)) and Matsui Airi from the 2020 dorama Kono Otoko wa Jinsei Saidai no Ayamachidesu. It airs November 12, 2020 on MBS. It should be a short dorama with only 7 episodes at 30min each and will be English subbed.

Tuesday’s Teaser: Rahut Rissaya (2020)

I already talked about Rahut Rissaya (2020) in a previous post, but now we’ve got some teasers and an airing date and I’m still excited!!! Pinkploy Chansamorn (Khing Kor Rar Khar Kor Rang) stars as the scheming nang’ek out for revenge and Artit (Bank) Tangwiboonpanit (Panthakan Rak) is the pra’ek whom the nang’ek plots against. This is a remake of a 2007 drama and hopefully they’ll keep the forced marriage theme. The lakorn airs Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and I’m hoping it will be English subbed.

I watched the the 2007 version of Rahut Rissaya and it remains one of my top ten lakorns to this date. (You can watch it from here.) The heroine was one of the baddest I’ve ever seen in lakorns as she was calculating, cool and focused on her revenge. The hero or pra’ek was overall sweet and attracted despite himself. Both he and the heroine went back and forth in that drama, it was awesome. He tied her up, she tied him up, etc. I hope that they don’t get rid of that back and forth, she was more than his equal in that lakorn. The nang’ek or heroine in that version blackmailed the hero (pra’ek) into marrying her because she needed to be close to his family to get more evidence on who killed her parents.

I’m hoping that they continue to have the forced marriage theme here (although it’s usually the other way around, this time it was the girl forcing the guy into marriage, 😂.) There was rape in the 2007 version which they could easily do without though this time around. Definitely will be watching this one!

What’s Next – Talay Luang (2020)?

Mik Thongraya has already had 2 lakorns come out in 2020, the newly airing Jark Sadtroo Soo Hua Jai (which is being subbed by Neko and Muse) and Sapai Import (subbed by Muse), but there’s always room for one more, right? Talay Luang (2020) is an upcoming Channel 7 lakorn starring Mik Thongraya and Sammy Cowell (Lhong Ngao Jun (2019). I like both actors and look forward to this pairing. No word yet on who will sub this, but both actors have their fan groups, so I’m hopeful it will be English subbed.

Synopsis: A strange man with amnesia appears on an island; there he meets Moya, begins to fall in love and starts building her an island resort. Against the warnings of her best friend, Moya starts to fall in love with him too. However just as their love blooms, a pregnant woman arrives claiming the man is her husband. She takes him back. So Moya tries to forget him, but he returns with memories intact as a player. (Source:thaidramatic_update)

I was wondering whether this is a new pairing, but apparently Sammy Cowell and Mik Thongraya have been in two series together, Paragit Ruk Series and The Fire Series, but they weren’t a couple in either one. This seems like it could be a remake of Prince Turns to Frog (2005), where a man with amnesia falls for a girl, but no, a Thailand remake of that drama is already in the works at GMM called Rak Woon Wai Jao Chai Kob (2020) so this may just be an original story. Regardless, I do like this type of story, so I’m looking forward to when it airs.

Tuesday’s Teaser: Nee Kiattiyot

Finally, a lakorn I’m interested in watching. Nee Kiattiyot (2020) begins November 3 on Channel 7 and has the nang’ek trying to cope after the death of her father and learning about the circumstances behind his death. It stars Maggi Apa (Suparburoot Jorm Jon: Duang Jai Kabot) and Oath Ratthee in what appears to be his first starring role. This lakorn airs weekdays, at 50min each. Neko has this on her list, so it should be English subbed.

Synopsis: An irresponsible father dies by suicide, leaving all his family to shoulder the responsibility of repaying his gambling debts to gangs and loan sharks. In addition, his son needs to care for his sick mother, and a sister oblivious to their suffering who enjoys nothing more than shopping her life away. What will Pan Tawan do? What’s Up? Begin Again (2020)

This is interesting. Another cdrama coming up about a contract marriage between a doctor and a female CEO and what makes it interesting is that it is a remake of a Thai drama. Begin Again (2020) is a remake of a 2001 Thai lakorn, Samee Ngern Phon (2001) otherwise known as The Bought Husband. Zhou Yu Tong (Young Blood) is the CEO and Simon Gong (The Love Equations (2020) as the doctor will get their chance to improve upon the original starting October 29. It airs 3 days a week on Mango TV, so here’s the first episode here, no English subtitles though. Hopefully someone will sub it 🤞.

Source: MGTV Drama Channel yt

Synopsis: It tells the story of a domineering female CEO and a warm doctor who turn a fake relationship into reality due to practical reasons. Having exchanged their ‘I do’s’, they start on a new chapter of their lives as they learn to fall in love. Lu Fangning is the general manager of Luning Group, a large corporation in the business of home furniture. Lu Fangning is a woman who has it all – talented, beautiful and rich. Nearing her thirties, Lu Fangning succumbs to family pressures and decides that she urgently needs a husband with whom she will have a child.

Coincidentally, surgeon Ling Rui appears in front of her. Ling Rui is not only blessed with good looks but also has an angelic heart, which makes him the perfect candidate in the eyes of Lu Fangning. She schemes her way to his life and they finally become husband and wife. Lu Fangning eventually realizes the error in her ways and strives to be better. However, keeping a marriage is not as easy as it seems. (Source: ChineseDrama.info

(Source: mydramalist.com)

The lakorn Samee Ngern Phon (2001) was remade again as Piang Chai Khon Nee Mai Chai Poo Wised (2016) with Kimberley Voltemas and James Ma, the version most lakorn fans are probably more familiar with. In the original 2001 version, the marriage that took place was arranged by their family, and that doesn’t appear to be the case in Begin Again (2020), so already the cdrama looks like it will differ from the original, which is not a bad thing. One of the main complaints I’ve read and seen (I did watch most of the 2001 version) was that the male lead was too weak and let everyone, including his ex girlfriend, walk all over him. And yes, this did have a horrible nang’rai, a female second lead who clung to the hero and tried to get them to break up, but hopefully this version will tone that down. A lot. Or at least make her somehow likable?

What’s Next? Daily Dramas – PHoenix 2020

I’ve not really watched a daily drama in full, but I thought I’ll talk a little about Korean daily dramas and in specific, a new one that caught my attention, Phoenix 2020. It stars Hong Soo Ah (Love to the End) and Lee Jae Woo (Sweet Enemy) in a story about second chances as a couple reunites after 10 years apart. This daily drama started airing already on October 26, 2020 on SBS so it probably will be English subbed.

Daily dramas in Korea usually are 30 min long and run every weekday, from Monday to Friday. They are often 100-120 episodes or longer and they usually are night time dramas. These dramas often feature families, revenge, melodrama and even makjang, super craziness. Ugly Alert (2013) is one example of a highly rated and recommended daily drama to start with.

Synopsis: Belonging to the wealthiest class and as the daughter of an influential chaebol family in Korea, Ji Eun grew up with everything. When she meets Se Hoon, who comes from an underprivileged family, he treats her like no other, and she falls in love with him. Although Ji Eun’s family opposes their relationship, they get married. However, due to reoccurring conflicts, Ji Eun and Se Hoon become exhausted and end their marriage.

Ten years later, fate ironically reverses their lives. Se Hoon, who is now a successful man, buys Ji Eun’s house out of revenge. But when he stands in front of her as Willian Jang, he only wants to help her. Nonetheless, there is Mi Ran, with whom he is in a serious relationship with, and next to Ji Eun is her new love, Jung Min, who is devoted to her. This drama is the 2020 version of the intertwined fates of four people’s love. (Source: KOCOWA)

Phoenix 2020 is the latest daily drama to hit the airwaves. Based on a 2004 26 episode titular kdrama by the same writer, Lee Yoo Jin, who also wrote the highly rated Missing Noir M (2015) and Team Bulldog: Off-duty Investigation (2020). It would be interesting if she took suspense and thriller elements and added them to the daily drama format (outside of the, finding the person who did ??? so I can get revenge on them), as that’s not normally present in daily dramas.

Tuesday’s Teaser: Jark Sadroo Soo Hua Jai

Another action lakorn from Channel 7. Jark Sadtroo Soo Hua Jai (2020) caught my eye because it stars Mik Thongraya and Aum Patcharapa, not to mention its plot suggests there will be plenty of conflict and angst. It airs on October 30. Muse has this on their list, so it looks like this will be English subbed.

Synopsis: Jett is a handsome man forced to become a hired gunman because of his dark past and problems. And one day, he is hired to kill a woman. It was suppose to be a simple job, however, it is complicated by the fact that his target, Sophita, is his ex-girlfriend’s sister. This leaves him with only two options. To either protect Sophita or to kill her. What will he chose? (Source: Collin Hypercuz and Wandering Queen at MyDramaList)

(Source: mydramalist.com)

I like both Mik and Aum, so while I think Thailand action lakorns are often bad in the action department, I might just give this a look. Besides, the two great together, although the fact that she’s his ex-girlfriend’s sister is a bit weird. It airs 3 days a week, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Choose What I Watch Next!

As you may or may not know, recently I’ve been in something of a drama slump, preferring to watch Youtube videos and movies over dramas. Since I usually get ideas for what I want to write about from what I’m watching, well, right now I have little inspiration. So I thought it might be a good idea to do some polling and ask you, my readers, to pick out what I should watch in November? To help you, I’ve included images and synopses. Hopefully, the two polls work. If not, I’ll have to redo this.

Dung Duang Haruetai (2020) – The story of three kingdoms. Kasit ruled by King Rangsimun is the wealthiest and most powerful but they lack a sea route, for this reason King Rangsimun had planned to politically wed Princess Maneesala of Tanta in order to conveniently use their water route. However if both Kasit and Tanta were to unite that would cause Puntoolat to become isolated and for this reason the three kingdoms have longed lived with suspicion of one another. Princess Maneesala decided to flee in order to escape the wedding because she had heard many ruthless stories about King Rangsimun but she accidentally fell into a trap and was rescued by Prince Tiyuttithorn/ P’Chai of Puntoolat where she asked to seek refuge. Upon hearing the news of Princess Maneesala’s disappearance and learning that it may be linked to P’Chai, Princess Tatsiga feared the start of a war and so she made her way to speak to P’Chai and got kidnapped by King Rangsimun and brought to Kasit. Tatsiga believed she was kidnapped as a hostage in order for Kasit to negotiate Maneesala’s return and so she began at first to dislike Rangsimun. However Rangsimun had fell in love with Tatsiga at first sight and so began their love story. (Source: Sharerice)

Fah Fak Ruk (2020) – The story is about Tongrak, a girl who struggles in life agreed to be a surrogate mom for Praefah, her biological sister who has health issues. Praefah is in love with Natee, an ordinary musician who turns out to be the heir of the Asavakietikul family where they have enemies all around. Because of this, Praefah and Natee end up getting murdered, leaving Tongrak a lonely pregnant woman with no job. Tongrak wants to tell the Asavakietikul family about their possible heir or heiress in her tummy but Kimhan, a toy designer, stopped her from doing so because he thinks the reason Praefah and Natee were killed is because the murderer wants to kill the heir. So Tongrak ends up being under the care of Kimhan. The two becomes close and develops feelings for each other unintentionally. (Source: MyDramaList)

Sapai Import (2020) – Lisa is a rich, spoiled girl who returned from her studies in England to find her parents were in debt. She had to work to repay that debt. And Don’s mother helped her. Don is the grandson of a very famous farm owner. When Don’s grandfather died, he conditionally named Don as his successor. To receive the farm, Don had to marry and have a child within a year. Otherwise the farm would be awarded to his cousin’s brother. Don’s mother loved Lisa like a daughter, so she pushed them toward marriage . At first, both of them rejected the marriage. Then Don’s mother announced that she was going to die soon, so Lisa accepted as a sign of gratitude. Since Don and Lisa don’t love each other, they agreed to pretend to be married for 6 months. This couple looks good together and I’m twisting myself up into knots hoping the nang’ek isn’t the doormat she was in the previous 2001 version and reports seem to back me up, so I’m hopeful.
