What’s Next? Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling (2021)

Could anyone really watch all the Chinese dramas being produced? They seem so prolific but maybe I’m imagining things? Anyway, here’s another drama that caught my attention, this time it’s Please Feel at Ease Mr. Ling (2021). I really loved female lead Rosy Zhao in The Romance of Tiger and Rose, don’t know the male lead Terry Liu from My Dear Lady (2020) though. The story reminds me of kdrama Save the Last Dance for Me 2004 with the guy having amnesia and meeting the heroine before going back to his regular life. A Youku production coming to you May 20, 2021, hopefully will be English subbed.

Synopsis: A story of how the ‘rabbit’ brings home a ‘big bad wolf’ follows a young woman named Gu An Xin who chances upon the hotshot executive Ling Yue after he encountered an accident. Gu An Xin picked up a man. At first, she thought he was stupid, but after a few days of interaction, he proves himself to be a genius. As it turns out, Ling Yue got into an accident after being caught in the ugly fight for succession of a powerful conglomerate. With two people so different from each other living together, what kind of relationship will it bring? (Source: ChineseDrama.info) ~~ Adapted from the web novel “I Accidentally Picked Up a President” (一不小心捡到个总裁) by Chun Feng Yi Du (纯风一度).

Tuesday’s Teaser: Oh My Boss (2021)

Hmm, another romantic comedy from Thailand! Mook Worranit (Angel Beside Me) and Luke Ishikawa (Nabi, My Stepdarling) star in Oh My Boss (2021)! This lakorn reminds me of kdrama My Secret Romance (2017) with its workplace relationship. It starts airing May 19, 2021 2 days a week on GMM so it should be English subbed on youtube.

Synopsis: When Noomnim finally lands a solid job, she decides to have a fun night out with her friend to celebrate. At the bar, she meets a handsome stranger and spends a lovely night with him. However, that stranger turns out to be her new boss! Luckily for her, the handsome CEO doesn’t seem to remember her. Or does he? When he makes Noomnim his personal assistant, she finds herself wondering whether he is interested in her or just this flirtatious with everyone. (Source: Wander_Queen at MyDramaList)

What’s Next? The Lion’s Secret

A Chinese drama I’ve been waiting for, The Lion’s Secret (2020) stars Zhu Ya Wen (Across the Ocean to See You) as a former soldier and Yang Zi Shan (Never Gone) as a female CEO who enter into a contract marriage together. Billed as an action drama, expect to see plenty of action and romance and this iQiyi production should have English subs.

Synopsis: The story of the lion and the lazy cat follows two people who get married first before falling in love. Mu WanQing is a successful lady CEO and Liu Qing is an unemployed former soldier.

Mu WanQing (Yang ZiShan) and Liu Qing’s (Zhu YaWen) first encounter was on their wedding day. With no feelings for each other, their relationship started out hostile until it turns into one of mutual love and support. Liu Qing helps Mu WanQing resolve the crises in her company while at the same time averting the provocations from her ex-boyfriend.

As their love is severely tested, a bigger challenge rises to the surface. In order to fulfill the wishes of their elders, they start on journey to Thailand. (Source: ChineseDrama.info)

Tuesday’s Teaser: Praomook (2021)

This is the lakorn I’ve been waiting for ever since I first heard of it and it finally, finally has an airing date! Praomook (2021) features some of my favorite tropes such as a forced marriage, mistaken identity and lots of angst and misunderstandings! This lakorn is getting plenty of buzz, thanks to the star power of the main couple, Bua Nalinthip and Pon Nawasch, as it’s their much anticipated reunion since 2016’s Tra Barb See Chompoo! This lakorn starts airing May 10, 2021 2 days a week, Monday and Tuesday on Channel 3. This will be on Viu and also Neko has it on her future projects list.

Source: KMLM ZIM’s yt channel

Synopsis: Praomook works at a nightclub to earn money and pay a debt. She doesn’t get along with Chalunthorn because he misunderstood her, thinking she’s a bad girl. One day, his parents ask Praomook to marry Chalunthorn to remove the bad luck from him. She accepts the proposal just to get back at him. He pretends to be gay to avoid her but she doesn’t believe it. They will eventually start falling for each other, but there are obstructions to their love. Treenutch, Chalunthorn’s ex wants revenge while trying to get Chalunthorn back. There’s also Maithong, the rival of Praomook’s family and Chalunthorn’s fling. (Source: MyDramaList)

Upcoming Dramas: Sequels Edition

I’ve noticed a number of upcoming sequels and decided to cover them as there are quite a few that I’m looking forwards to. Honestly, the vast majority of dramas do not need, and shouldn’t get sequels. . Most lakorns are based on the romance and suffer from too much filler material, not too much plot. Nevertheless, there have been some sequels announced and I thought I’ll talk about them briefly as I do think some of the sequels sound promising.

Girl From Nowhere Season 2 (2021)

The 2018 lakorn Girl From Nowhere (2018) won a lot of praise based on its tight storytelling, the varied social issues it dealt with and of course, the titular girl Nanno who was played with perfection by Kitty Amatayakul. I spent most of the time watching season 1 trying to figure out what and/or who Nanno was and being fascinated by her. Well now Nanno returns again in Girl From Nowhere Season 2 (2021). This lakorn airs on Netflix on May 7, 2021.

Synopsis: Nanno is back, doling karmic retribution to more students and faculty in a new season of this anthology series — and this time, she’s not alone. (Source: Netflix)

Hospital Playlist 2 (2021)

Not really a big fan of hospital dramas, but I do know that Korean’s Hospital Playlist (2020) was a massive hit with critics and audiences alike! No synopsis yet for the 2nd season that starts June 17, 2021 so here’s the synopsis from the 1st season. Looks like the cast, writer and director are all returning too.

Synopsis: The stories of people going through their days that are seemingly ordinary but actually special, at the hospital, a place known as the microcosm of life, where someone is being born and someone’s life meets their ending. The five doctors are long-time friends of 20 years who started their undergrad in 1999 in the same medical school and now are colleagues in the same hospital and have a band together. Voice 4: Judgment Hour (2021)

So I watched Voice (2019), the Thailand version which I liked and then I watched the Korean drama Voice 2 (2018) and loved that so I’m so pumped for Voice 4: Judgment Hour (2021). The series is about a voice profiler who solves crimes and her partner, whom has changed three times now but they’re all male cops with major issues. There are a lot of social issues referenced in the episodes, which usually end up tying to together to be about one big baddie they need to take down. This drama airs June 19 on OCN and should have 14 episodes.

Synopsis: Revolves around an emergency call center and the employees who attempt to fight crime using the limited information they get from the urgent calls they receive. Kang Kwon Joo is a life-saving voice profiler. Derek Jo, a unit leader at the LAPD who winds up collaborating with the Golden Time Team. A tough perfectionist who refuses to accept even the smallest mistake, Derek Jo will be a force to be reckoned. (Source: Soompi) (Source: mydramalist.com)

And even more sequels are being planned!

The period romantic comedy featuring Kimberly Voltemas and Mario Maurer is back with a sequel, Thong Ake Mor Yah Tah Chaloang 2. Popular Korean dramas are getting sequels as well, The Penthouse 3: War in Life (2021) and The Uncanny Counter 2 (2022).

What’s Next? Use for My Talent (2021)

Another lighthearted romantic comedy from China. Use for My Talent (2021) stars Jasper Liu (Before We Get Married (2019)) as the guy with a fear of germs and Shen Yue (Count Your Lucky Stars (2020)) is his employee who doesn’t mind a bit of dirt, lol. Not that special a plot, but I like the actors.

There was a Korean adaptation (Clean With Passion For Now (2018)) of the same webtoon this drama is based on, so I wonder if it’ll follow the kdrama or webtoon? The drama should air May 9, 2021, and is a Mango Tv production, should have 24 episodes, and English subbed episodes will be on Netflix USA.

The two became acquainted when Shuang Jiao becomes an employee in Gu Ren Qi’s cleaning company. The two became closer as they get to know each other. Under each other’s influence, they began to heal from their wounds. (Source: DramaWiki)

Tuesday’s Teaser: Song Sanaeha 2021

So I know I’ve talked about this lakorn before, but it finally has an airdate and everything!!! Song Sanaeha (2021) is one of those high profile lakorns that’s getting plenty of buzz, thanks to the star power of the main couple, Kimberley Voltemas (Dung Duang Haruetai) and James Ma (Klin Kasalong), not to mention it’s their much anticipated reunion (they both starred together in 2016’s Piang Chai Khon Nee Mai Chai Poo Wised! This twin lakorn starts airing May 5, 2021, two days a week on Channel 3. It will be English subbed on Viu, we’ll have to see if anyone else picks it up.

Source: CH3Thailand’s yt channel

If you can’t see the teaser, here’s the link. And there’s a great ost song here.

(Warning; possible spoilers ahead)

A remake of a 2005 titular lakorn, Song Sanaeha (2005) starred Aum Patcharapa and Vee Veraparb. I looked to find more info about it and discovered this thread here. Apparently, the pra’ek Warit is divorced in the 2005 version and nang’ek (the good twin) Pit is something of a tomboy who promised her dad to protect her younger sis (they’re twins so…. lol!) and she does so with her fists. Her younger twin Duan is a bit of a mess, a famous actress who was in relationship with rock star and got pregnant from him but aborted the baby. Warit encounters Pit first of course and they even kiss, and there are the usual misconceptions/mistaken identities, but apparently he knows from the 2nd episode who is whom. Thank goodness they don’t drag that out. Of course, Duan tries to get in between the couple as she throws her sister under the bus (she drugs her and sets her up to be raped), but there’s a happily ever after ending and Duan ends up dead I think? That is not that unexpected an ending, a lot of twin lakorns seem to have only one twin left alive by the time they end, since the bad twin would probably end up in jail otherwise.

It remains to be seen how much the 2021 version will copy Song Sanaeha (2005), but at least we have some idea of how the plot turns out.

Synopsis: Two twin sisters, so similar in appearance, but so different in nature, go through life in different ways. Duen is a capricious model and actress, she’s not considerate of anybody’s interests and feelings. Pit, after the death of their parents, takes care of her sister and constantly helps her. While Duen was in a scandalous relationship with a rock musician, Pit met Warit, a worthy young man who first was confused by the twins, but soon realized the difference between them. By a strange coincidence, he turned out to be the nephew of Duen’s new lover. Duen, tired of the elderly uncle, switched her attention to the nephew. And the more he resisted, the angrier and terrible her tricks became to quarrel the lovers. (Source: MyDramaList)

Tuesday’s Teaser – So I Married an Anti-Fan (2021)

Hmm, hate to love, celebrity, reality tv show, cohabitation. Okay, this sounds right up my alley. I’ve been searching for a good Korean romantic comedy, tried Oh My Ladylord, True Beauty and more but just couldn’t get past the first couple of episodes or so. So I Married an Anti-Fan (2021) is based on a webtoon and stars Choi Soo Young (Run On), and Choi Tae Joon (Missing 9). This romantic comedy airs on various channels starting on April 30, 2021, and should be English subbed on Viki, Amazon Prime and elsewhere.

Synopsis: Hoo Joon is a top star while Geun Young is a magazine reporter. For a potential news article, Geun Young decides to attend an opening ceremony for a club. There, she witnesses top star Hoo Joon’s violent behavior and she also vomits on him by accident. This leads to Geun Young losing her job. Believing that Hoo Joon was behind her firing, she decides to get him back by demonstrating in front of Hoo Joons management office. Slowly, she begins to receive media coverage on her demonstration and soon becomes famous as an anti-fan. A PD approaches Geun Young about participating in a reality TV show which revolves around the idea of a top star and their anti-fan living together. Being unemployed, she decides to accept the offer. Meanwhile, Hoo Joon is offered the same reality TV show and accepts to try to improve his image. Hoo Joon and Geun Young try to give each other a hard time on the reality show, but soon start to fall for one another. Tuesday’s Teaser – Dark Hole (2021)

Been lovin’ me some mutant, apocalyptic survival dramas ever since watching 2020’s fantastic Sweet Home, and this kdrama seems like it might be a worthy entrant to the genre. Dark Hole (2021) is an action, mystery thriller drama starring Kim Ok Bin (Children of a Lesser God), and Lee Joon Hyuk (Stranger 2) as they fight to survive against mutants. This thriller airs on OCN starting April 30, 2021 two days a week and should be English subbed on Viki and elsewhere.

Thursday’s Teaser: Undercover (2021)

Wow! Intense. Riveting. The teaser for the new JTBC show, Undercover (2021) really hooked me. Ji Jin Hee, from 2019’s Misty, plays the undercover hubby married to Kim Hyun Joo‘s character (WATCHER). Both actors starred together in I Have a Lover (2015), so this will be a reunion for them. The thriller kdrama is directed by Song Hyun Wook, a favorite of mine (The Beauty Inside, Marriage, Not Dating). It starts airing April 23, 2021 two days a week on jTBC, and hopefully someone will English sub it.

Source: JTBC Drama’s YT channel

Synopsis: “Undercover” depicts the story of Han Jung Hyun, who has been hiding his identity for a long time, and Choi Yeon Soo, a human rights lawyer who becomes the first head of the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit to fight for justice. A fierce battle begins to protect love and justice from the huge forces that dominate and shake the country for profit. The drama expects to dig into the reality of power and closely follow the story of human multifacetedness hidden in it and discuss what is right and wrong.

Ji Jin Hee’s character Han Jung Hyun is an agent at the Agency for National Security Planning who has been hiding his identity for a long time. He’s known for his extraordinary quickness and boldness, and during his top-secret mission, he falls in love with Choi Yeon Soo and eventually marries her. However, his secret life gets caught up in an uncontrollable whirlwind when his wife becomes nominated for a post at the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit.

Kim Hyun Joo’s character Choi Yeon Soo is a human rights lawyer who has lived for justice and truth. In recognition of her lifelong beliefs and abilities, she becomes nominated as the first head of the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigations Unit.
