What’s Next? Mia Jum Pen (2021)

I’ve written before about upcoming lakorn remake Mia Jum Pen (2021)) that stars Mai Warit (Mia Archeep) and Pie Rinrada (Krong Karm), but now it’s actually getting ready to air!!! So yes, this will be on Channel 3 starting on January 4 (correction this will star airing on January 22, 2021. This is another marriage lakorn and I’ve loved the chemistry between this couple so far, and the teaser is funny. This looks like a winner. Neko should be subbing this one.

Synopsis: Tawan live with Yuanjai, aunt in law and her daughter Yardfah as servant. Yhod, her uncle once made promise with his friend Trong to set their child marriage. Yhardfah refuse it, think that Tomorn, Trong’s son, is rustic and poor guy, also being in relationship with Bunlaeng. They don’t make any money, just spend Yuanjai’s money. One day, Tomorn gives his hand to pay a debt for Yuanjai, so she let Tawan to marry him as Yhardfah. Because of telling that he hate liar, Tawan start feeling awkward about this. Tuesday’s Teaser – Rak Woon Wai Jao Chai Kob (2021)

Rak Woon Wai Jao Chai Kob (2021) is the first remake of a foreign drama in 2021 and I expect many more. Starring Vill Wannarot (Kiss of the Cobra) and Son Yuke (Leh Game Rak), this remake of Taiwanese drama Prince Turns to Frog (2005) about a cold businessman who loses his memory and falls for a village girl. The lakorn airs January 4, 2021 4 days a week on GMM One. This should be subbed by Muse.

Synopsis: Looktarn is a smart girl who made up a legend about a frog ghost to protect Chuen Chiva, her hometown, from greedy businessmen who are looking for an opportunity to invest in that village for their own sake. One day, a cold-hearted, calm, and strict businessman named Kin creates a secret plan to create a high-end luxury resort.

However, due to an unexpected accident, he lost his memory and became very kind and warm-hearted. Looktarn began to take care of him and they soon fell in love and lived very happily together. However, their happiness didn’t last long, Kin’s parent came to the village to bring Kin back with them. He gains all of his memory back. Unfortunately, Kin has forgotten everything that has happened in the village, including Looktarn. Will Looktarn be able to make Kin’s to remember her? (Source Collin Hypercuz at MyDramList)

Rak Woon Wai Jao Chai Kob (2021) is the third pairing of Vill Wannarot and Son Yuke, who also first starred in 2012’s Sao Noi and Tae Pang Korn (2017). They make a great couple and the story has enough comedy and drama in it to test their acting skills. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them both act, (I watched them last in Sao Noi and enjoyed the lakorn) so I’m looking forwards to seeing them on the small screen again.

What’s Next? Monarch Industry (2021)

Dramas about married couples are my favorite genre, so this Chinese drama Monarch Industry (2021) is on my list to watch. With a well known cast, it stars the famous movie actress Zhang Zi Yi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ), Zhou Yi Wei (New Face (2020)) and Tony Yang (Lady & Liar). There should be lots of palace intrigue, power struggle and more in Monarch Industry (2021) which is supposed to have 80 episodes. 80 episodes is ginormous, but I think under the right direction, writers and production, this could be done (plus episodes are only 45 mins long). This is a Youku drama has a lot of people interested so I’m sure it’ll be English subbed. The drama will start airing on January 9, 2021

Synopsis: The imperial power is decaying, and the nobles are extravagant, regardless of the lives and deaths of the people. The king of the county, Wang Hao, and the first love of the three emperors, the young and beautiful, were entangled in the battle for the prophecy of “getting the best of the world.” Become a father’s chess piece, marry the Yuzhang Wang Xiaoyu who is given the cold door.

On the night of the wedding, Xiao Yu was forced to leave the capital, and Wang Hao was shamed and disheartened. Prince Helan was tied to Wang Hao to seek revenge for Xiao Yu, and the husband and wife both became acquainted with each other in disguise. Wang Hao was moved by Xiao Yu’s wish to protect the world’s people. The two men separated from each other because of the struggle between the two kings and the Xie. The two men have gone through many hardships to reunite and defeat the rebels.

When the rebellion rebelled, Wang Hao desperately sent the unintentional son to Beijing to protect him. Wang Hao took the soldiers to defend the city, and died in his life. He finally stood by Xiao Yu, who was in the chaos of the border. In the end, the husband and wife will work together to create a new era to protect the people of the country. Based on the novel of the same name. (Source: baike.baidu.com (translation by Google))

(Source: mydramalist.com)

Directors are Cheng Yuan Hai (Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace), and
Hou Yong (A World Without Thieves). No word yet on the screenwriter, but I’m hoping Monarch Industry (2020) is another great palace drama akin to my favorite Story of Yanxi Palace (which was 70 episodes and mostly mesmerizing in spite of that fact).

So Ju Yeon (Dr. Romantic 2 (2020) and 2nd male lead Yeo Hoe Hyun. For those not familiar with the original, this is a familiar story of a young girl who confesses to the cold, brainy student. A Love So Beautiful (2020) airs December 28 on Netflix.

2020 in Lakorns: Action!

Another shorter selection of 2020 actions lakorns for me to talk about when compared to 2019, so I’ve included both english subbed lakorns (only the best) and some unsubbed lakorns that should be subbed (uh, maybe). I’m putting here action lakorns that had lots of action, but also couldn’t be put in other genres such as comedy, horror or historical. I looked at trailers too to see where the lakorn belongs. You’re welcome!

I put all the 2019 English subbed lakorns in part 1 and if they were not subbed, but sounded interesting, or different and should be subbed, they were part 2. So you can check out these posts to see what you may have missed out on in 2019. So 2019 action lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here, 2019 comedy lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here, 2019 drama lakorns (slap n kiss included) part 1 here, part 2 here. 2019 historical lakorns here.

Lah Tah Chon (2020) – Because of the brutal killing of his family, making the young engineer take revenge without waiting for the justice system. But due to carelessness, he is arrested for murdering the father of a woman he secretly loves and is sent to train as an assassin of a secret organization that eliminates evil people illegally. There was a turn of event when he realized he was being used so he decided to withdraw and expose the organization’s evil plans. With his own life and his loved one at stake. (Source: ohsweethaven)

Source: Channel 7’s yt

Reasons it’s interesting? The trailer looks good and the synopsis. The director Oliver Bever is an old hand at action lakorns, having directed 2019’s Insee Daeng, and Kularb Kror Petch (2019) which also starred Es Kantapong. Preaw Tussaneeya is the love interest who also worked with Es before so a lot of reunions within the cast and staff which can be a good thing. This lakorn is still airing, but it is being English subbed by Thippy .Trailer above

Jark Sadtroo Soo Hua Jai (2020) – Jett is a handsome man forced to become a hired gunman because of his dark past and problems. And one day, he is hired to kill a woman. It was suppose to be a simple job, however, it is complicated by the fact that his target, Sophita, is his ex-girlfriend’s sister. This leaves him with only two options. To either protect Sophita or to kill her. What will he chose? (Source: Collin Hypercuz and Wandering Queen at MyDramaList
(Source: MyDramaList)

Source: Channel 7’s yt

Reasons it’s interesting? A lot of people have loved the chemistry between the two leads,
Aum Patcharapa
and Mik Thongraya, but at 19 episodes, it better have a tight plot, or there will be lots of filler! It is English subbed by Muse and Neko. Trailer above

Singha Na Ka (2020) This drama is based on the writings of Seal Writer Mala Khamchan, and is directed by Chatchawan Watthamon, who holds this title. Singha Na Ka is a story of young people who have the magic power to be occupied.

On one day, there was a very greedy scientist who discovered this magical power and meant to take possession of this world alone. So young energetic youngsters such as Haha and Nana have come out to stop this scientist. And to save the world not to fall into the hands of the villains. The mission is to stumble upon the love story. Make sure to make sure that you have the right one.

Source: Mello Thailand’s yt

The scientist led by Mantra brought science and technology to use as a tool to take over the world. Haha and Nana have to use magic and tactics that are trained by the top teachers to protect the world. Haha is like water because he is calm, but Nana is like fire, because he is stubborn and impatient. But both of them are like the perfect mix because they help each other. But the friendship came to a breaking point when Katie came into their lives. The love issue is so aggressive . To fight alongside protecting the world. The brand is inventing a tool by using scientific technology that can make him dominate the world. But to destroy the tool is only one way. It is the magic power of both Haha and Nana !! Finally, Nana will cooperate with Haha to protect the world or not to watch.

Reasons it’s interesting? So the twist here is there are magic powers and most of the fights are done with these powers and a whole lotta CG. Some of the CG in the trailer looks fine, some not so much. It is English subbed by neko. Trailer above.

Dek Seple (2020) In 1977, there’s a fight between soldiers and communists in a village along the border. Sak, a teacher in the village, loses his wife and his young daughter but his son is saved by Pew who later adopts him and changes his name to Tin. Because they are poor and no education, Tin starts to hang out with a gang of thieves. Tin snatches a lady’s purse and runs into the school where Sak is teaching. Sak helps him out and wants Tin to come to live with him. But once a thief always a thief and this time Tin gets arrested. Sak bailed him out and wishes to adopt him and put him back to school. But it might be too late… (Source: Five Star Production)
(Source: MyDramaList

Source: Channel 7’s yt

Reasons it’s interesting? Dek Seple (2020) is a remake of a 1996 lakorn, and I thought the trailer was very emotional and dramatic. Too often in action lakorns, the story or relationships take second place to the action, but there seems to be plenty of story here. And drama, lots of drama! Trailer above.

Roy Pah (2020) – The story is about a ranger who stands firm on his ideology against illegal logging, even if it makes him arrest the father of the woman he loves. His love life is ruined when he’s framed of killing her mother, and he needs to prove his innocence to get her back. In the meantime, she ends up engaged to the heir of a millionaire just to spite him, but she doesn’t know that the guy plans to build his resort on a forest. (Source: MyDramaList)

Source: Channel 7’s yt

Reasons it’s interesting? Honestly feel like I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Cuz really there aren’t a lot of options and this lakorn had half way decent trailer and stars BigM Krittarit and newer actress Kessarin Noiphueng I’m not familiar with at all, but she does seem to have decent chemistry with BigM. Trailer above.

Singh Sang Pa (2020) Male lead used to work for the baddies. After he retired from the group, he returned to his hometown only to find out that his family members were killed. He later joined a thief gang lead by female lead in order to fight the baddies. They both had a bad past with the bad guys lead by Anun Amarin who is actually his brother-in-law.

Source: Channel 7’s yt

Reasons it’s interesting? Ok, wait a minute, now I know I’m scraping the bottom of the barrel. Cuz that trailer was laughable, what is it with blatantly fake wigs? Spend some money or do something to make it less obvious! Jeez. Anyway, this has a female gang leader. Yep, you’re welcome. Well, it also stars Louis Hesse and Pinkploy Paparwadee Chansamorn. Trailer above.

2020 in Lakorns: Historicals

Welcome to lakornview’s 2020 in lakorns, where I go over what was English subbed of interest and also what lakorns should have been English subbed. I’ll have multiple posts on different genres and subjects, including about different trends in lakornland and what the future holds. This was a strange year, with COVID delaying the releases of many lakorns and a number of channels just played reruns, nevertheless, let’s begin with the historical genre.

2020 was kind of a bust for historical lakorns, although there were a fair number of time traveling lakorns, but straight historical lakorns were largely absent, unless you include the few historical/horror lakorns that went unsubbed this year. Maybe if we actually get a 2021 sequel to blockbuster historical 2018’s Bpoop Phaeh Saniwaat called Prom Likit (2021), historicals will see a revival in 2021, time will tell.

I discussed 2019 historical lakorns such as Thong Ake Mor Yah Tah Chaloang (2019), Krong Karm (2019) and more in this post here. I put all the English subbed lakorns in part 1 and if they were not subbed, but sounded interesting, or different and should be subbed, they were part 2. So you can check out these posts to see what you may have missed out on in 2019. So 2019 action lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here, 2019 comedy lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here, 2019 drama lakorns part 1 here, part 2 here.

Dung Duang Haruetai – The story of three kingdoms. Kasit ruled by King Rangsimun is the wealthiest and most powerful but they lack a sea route, for this reason King Rangsimun had planned to politically wed Princess Maneesala of Tanta in order to conveniently use their water route. However if both Kasit and Tanta were to unite that would cause Puntoolat to become isolated and for this reason the three kingdoms have longed lived with suspicion of one another.

Princess Maneesala decided to flee in order to escape the wedding because she had heard many ruthless stories about King Rangsimun but she accidentally fell into a trap and was rescued by Prince Tiyuttithorn/ P’Chai of Puntoolat where she asked to seek refuge.

Upon hearing the news of Princess Maneesala’s disappearance and learning that it may be linked to P’Chai, Princess Tatsiga feared the start of a war and so she made her way to speak to P’Chai and got kidnapped by King Rangsimun and brought to Kasit. Tatsiga believed she was kidnapped as a hostage in order for Kasit to negotiate Maneesala’s return and so she began at first to dislike Rangsimun. However Rangsimun had fell in love with Tatsiga at first sight and so began their love story. (Source: Sharerice)

Reason it’s interesting: This had to be one of the most anticipated historical lakorns of 2020, but most reviewers gave it an unfavorable review compared to the 1996 in terms of the romance and fantasy elements. Others enjoyed the 2nd couple’s story more and the costumes and cinematography of the lakorn. Still, it got a rating of 7.8 on mydramalist and it stars Tik Jesadaporn and Kimberley Voltemas, so if you’re a fan of either, this might be for you. This was subbed by Muse. Trailer

Leh Bunpakarn (2020) Plerngfah has ability to see the previous lives of people since he was young. His parent decided to move to live in the US in order to treat his strange symptoms. He is no longer able to see weird images or have dream. 20 years later, Plerngfah is back to live at Thailand and work as a news reporter for Channel 6. Several bombing with ancient traces happened cause him to meet Sitang, a young archeology professor. Then Plerngfah is able to see past lives again. He is sure that Sitang is his soulmate and they has been together for many lifetimes. However, enemies who cause chaos in their previous lives, still follow them to this world and swear to sperate Plerngfah and Sitang again.
(Source: MyDramaList)

Reason it’s interesting. James Jirayu and Taew Natapohn both have their fans who will definitely want to watch this. It also looks like there are many different past lives that the lakorn looks at, which made it confusing for some viewers. I also think James having special powers is an unique slant to the past lives genre. It is English subbed by Muse Trailer above.

Ruk Laek Pop (2020) – A modern day reckless influencer gets transported back into the past where he meets his look-alike great grandfather. To somehow get back to the present, he needs his great grandfather’s help. Matters get chaotic when he gets involved in his great grandfather’s love life. If he alters who his great grandmother is he would cease to exist. What valuable lessons will he learn and how will he return to the present?.

Reason it’s interesting? Film Thanapat, Vill Wannarot and Bifern Anchasa Mongkhonsamai all star in this lakorn, with Film playing dual roles. The lakorn also has an interesting plot, one I’ve seen before in western films like Back to the Future, but is new to Thailand lakorns I believe. The 28 episodes this lakorn has did put some viewers off, but other people loved the chemistry between the couples as well as the acting by the leads. This lakorn is on Muse’s site. Trailer

Sunya Ruk Sunya Luang (2020) A story transitioning between the past and present lives.

Reason it’s interesting? Denkhun Ngamnet plays a cop who meets a mysterious woman, played by Namwhan Phulita he takes a dislike too. And there’s another woman too who always seems to be around. There are unusual deaths occurring and the cop has to figure out what’s happening and why. I’ve just started watching this and am already intrigued by the story, which is a love triangle. So far most of the story has been in the present times, so I’m wondering how much the past plays a part in this. This is was subbed by Muse. Trailer above

Kadee Rak Kham Pop (2020) – Puncha is an investigator and met Dunchaya who happens to be the suspect in poisoning a victim by being the one who made the food. Because of fear, she ran away and Puncha chased her. They were in a boat and strange things happen leading them to two crossed back to 1913. Puncha had to temporarily stop investigations into the case of Dunchaya, and they were looking for a way back together, but the two were accidentally involved in a murder case. Looking for a way to get back from the present time, the two investigated the case but the matter was not as simple as the leads thought, many killed in a row and they have to find who is doing it. (Source: Qoo25)
(Source: MyDramaList)

Reason it’s interesting. Honestly I saw the 1st episode and wasn’t impressed. But this is only 10 episodes, and there are not a lot of other options for historical dramas this year, sooo. This is English subbed by Muse and Thippy Trailer

Toong Sanaeha (2020) – The story is set in the 1970s, in a small Thai village. Paitoon is in love with Yupin, whose father has gambling issues. They planned on getting married but Pao, his mother, doesn’t like Yupin and won’t accept their relationship because of her father. While Paitoon is in monkhood, Pao forces Yupin to marry Praiwan, Paitoon’s brother who’s suffering from polio since childhood. From now on, Yupin is Paitoon’s sister-in-law, but their love for each other has not gone away. Will they be able to overcome all obstacles and be together again? (Source: MyDramaList) ~~ Adapted from a novel of the same title by author Chulamani.
(Source: asianfuse.net)

Reason it’s interesting? As one of the few actual historical lakorns of 2020 that doesn’t involve time travel/past lives, it would be neat if this were English subbed. Both the director (Padiwaradda) and screenwriter (Klin Kasalong (2019)) have a lot of experience and done many historical lakorns, so this lakorn was in capable hands. Plus it stars actors such as Sorat Jaron, Toey Jarinporn and Noi Busakorn.

Wimarn Montra (2020) “There’s a past at this house, there’s death at this house, waiting will be over at this house.” She try to beat her rival because of being betrayed by her lover, decide to spell his spirit to be with her. She use a blood from innocent girl to live as immortal. Waiting for new perfect body of her lover. (Source: thaidramatic_update)
(Source: MyDramaList)

Reason it’s interesting? Yui Chiranan and BigM Krittarit star in this lakorn that aired on Channel 7. This is another past/present lives lakorn which seems fairly interesting from its trailer.

Pbop Phee Jao (2020) A young woman born with the fortune of a ghost’s successor But then you have to lose everything, including your lover. She tries to resurrect her lover from the dead until the end. At the prison with malice and waiting for the day the lover will return again.

700 years later, at Wiang Pha Chan, there is a big miracle. Awakening from a long and warm sleep in Chiang Rai city, Wiang Pha Chan has two wives, Mae Chao Thong-On. Who are pregnant and mother, mother-in-law from foreigners who try to not be pregnant

Returning to Wiang Pha Chan as the new mother of the Holy Hall Mother’s bracelet is to ask for the devil’s teacher. She conjured the soul into the belly of the bracelet and provided that, at the age of 20, that child had to become the heir of the death. Thongthong’s mother gave birth to an ugly baby, named Khamthong. In the middle of the night.

One night Ruang found Khamthong eating the victim, knowing that she was ghoul. Rueang would like to help her. Therefore will take her to see Luang Pho. But in the end, the words were not expensive to the appointment Bearing until trying to find the ring Showing that the ring is ugly and pregnant Ring lying that this is because of the expensive gold. Causing Rage to become angry and to plan to subdue the ghoul by luring expensive gold words to meet Reverend Father When she realized it, he was feuding and bearing out the heart to eat. Ring gave birth and died immediately. Doctor Phaseng, a medicine doctor who helped deliver babies to escape from Wiang. While the golden expensive words fled. (Source: thairath)
(Source: AsianFuse Wiki)

Reason it’s interesting? Uhhhh. This stars Smart Krissada and Natharika Thamapreedanan, among other actors, on Channel 8 and seems to be one of the few horror historicals of 2020. There was also a sequel that aired this year as well, which really surprised me because it’s not often this type of genre gets a sequel. Pbop Phee Jao 2 (2020) seems to have most of the same cast. Trailer.

What’s Next? You are My Heartbeat

You are My Heartbeat (2020) is romantic comedy that’s been in the works since the beginning of 2020. Not many details about this one, but the main couple, played by Mai Davika (My Ambulance) and Push Puttichai (Happy Birthday (2018)) look good together and my attention was caught by these photos of them filming together. Filming is said to be almost completed, so let’s hope we see this lakorn soon in 2021!

The director is Sarasawadee Wongsompetch, who has also directed a lot of popular lakorns including Full House, Raeng Tawan, Tra Barb See Chompoo so I really hope this lakorn has a strong writer as well. Apparently, this is related to 2017 cdrama The Fox’s Summer (2017), so I’m wondering if this is a remake, or sequel or whatever of the cdrama?

Synopsis: Here’s a synopsis of The Fox’s Summer (2017) Gu Cheng Ze, the adopted son of the Gu family, is the CEO of Gu Mall Corporation. Mrs. Gu wishes for her biological grandson, Gu Jin Yu, to take over the company, and Gu Cheng Ze is tasked with guiding the rightful heir towards becoming a respectful businessman. During this time, he meets fashion designer Li Yan Shu and discovers that she is Gu Jin Yu’s ex-girlfriend. He decides to hire her to motivate Gu Jin Yu, who still harbors feelings for Li Yan Shu. The plan works because Gu Jin Yu decides to join the company and pursue her. When Mrs. Gu finds out about Gu Jin Yu’s feelings for Li Yan Shu, she is livid and tells Gu Cheng Ze to separate both of them. This creates an opportunity for Gu Cheng Ze and Li Yan Shu to get closer to each other. (Source: Wikipedia) ~~ Adapted from the web novel “When the President Falls in Love” by Shen Cang Mei

Tuesday’s Teaser: Sweet Home (2020)

There really seems to be only one drama debuting this week with an interesting poster and so I’m introducing you to kdrama Sweet Home (2020). It stars Song Kang (Love Alarm (2019)) as a loner who moves into a mysterious apartment building where a monster (gulp) lives. This horror drama also stars some other well known actors such as Lee Jin Wook, Lee Shi Young, Lee Do Hyun, Go Min Shi, and Park Gyu Young. I wonder if this will have sequels because it only has 10 episodes. This will be English subbed on Netflix USA and airs on December 18, 2020.

Synopsis: Hyun Soo, a loner high school student who lost his entire family in a terrible accident, moves to an old apartment complex called Green Home. Driven by despair, he gradually realizes the secret of the Green home. The fact that a monster trying to drive humanity out of various forms of distorted human desires surrounds the Green home, including himself, and that the residents of Green Homes are trapped in them. Watching Now: Non Lakorns – Detective, Marriage and More

So right now I’m going to start trying to finish some dramas I put on hold to finish off 2020 and be able to watch a fresh new batch of dramas. But I had some dramas catch my eye and couldn’t resist turning in to watch these dramas from China, Taiwan and Korea. These are all 2020 dramas too, there are so many 2020 dramas still on my ‘plan to watch list’ still waiting for me. Oh well. On to 2021!

Other Dramas

So I’m watching a number of different dramas now, certain dramas like lakorns I like to watch on my laptop, my Netflix I like to watch on tv screen and so on.

If you’re looking to take a break from romance, I’ve got two dramas that seem fairly compelling so far.

Synopsis: Neither his forensic skills nor his deductive / inductive reasoning skills can aptly sum up the green Detective Gang Do Chang. His best qualities lie in being righteous and diligent. Returning to the force after a year-long leave is Oh Ji Hyuk, a graduate of the Korean National Police University. An unsympathetic man, he catches criminals using his keen insight and his sharp attention to detail. These opposites are partnered together to reopen a case from five years ago, when the verdict called for the death penalty for murderer Lee Dae Chul…

The Good Detective (2020) is on Netflix in the USA and I’ve been enjoying this detective drama for a while. The drama seems to revolve around an old case that needs to be reexamined now when new facts come to light. This has a teaming of opposites, an older more traditional cop and his younger, richer partner. So far I’ve watched 4/16 episodes and have been enjoying the story more and more.

Synopsis: After discovering his estranged daughter’s link to mysterious murders, a forensic detective with Asperger’s syndrome risks everything to solve the case. (Source: Netflix)

A short drama at 8 episodes, I’m already halfway through this. This is another drama, this time from Taiwan on Netflix USA and the synopsis was intriguing. The Victims’ Game (2020) also features a number of familiar faces such as Joseph Chang as a detective with Asperger’s syndrome. There are a number of twists in this one, and you do have to pay close attention or else you’ll get lost.

Synopsis: This story revolves around the cold and icy “male god” professor Zhang Sinian and the calm and sunny Yun Shu. After a fractious first meeting, where Yun Shu dressed down the especially finicky Sinian, she was shocked to find out that he was her university lecturer. Through a series of coincidental encounters, the two agreed to engage in a contractual marriage. As the feelings between them grow, how will they keep their relationship from those around them? (Source: DramaWiki; Baike.Baidu) * Adapted from novel Mr. Perfect and Miss Almost by Wanzhi

There have been any number of Chinese dramas released recently involving a married couple and I’m going to try to watch all of them!!! But not all at once, of course and I try to watch things that are finished first so I don’t have to wait for subs. I heard good things about Perfect and Casual (2020) and wanted to check it out. I don’t think the synopsis is really all that accurate, Yun Shu isn’t really calm, and Zhang Sinian is more awkward and unused to social situations rather than cold. He’s just very much in his own world, that isn’t usually the same world most of us inhabit, lol.

This drama was like China’s answer to kdrama Because This is My First Life (2017), which isn’t a bad thing. It’s got a more relaxed, slice of life feel to it like the kdrama, a contractual marriage, female leads who seem to show their feelings and fall in love first and so on. I’m on episode 14 out of 24 episodes, and the heroine already knows her feelings and tries to get the hero on board with her. They’re a cute couple and there’s another guy getting involved (her boss and hero’s friend) that’s making our hero jelly so I’m enjoying that. It’s pretty angst free. I’m not really interested in the 2nd couple, so I mainly watch for the main couple.

Synopsis: It tells the story of a domineering female CEO and a warm doctor who turn a fake relationship into reality due to practical reasons. Having exchanged their ‘I do’s’, they start on a new chapter of their lives as they learn to fall in love. Lu Fangning is the general manager of Luning Group, a large corporation in the business of home furniture. Lu Fangning is a woman who has it all – talented, beautiful and rich. Nearing her thirties, Lu Fangning succumbs to family pressures and decides that she urgently needs a husband with whom she will have a child. Coincidentally, surgeon Ling Rui appears in front of her. Ling Rui is not only blessed with good looks but also has an angelic heart, which makes him the perfect candidate in the eyes of Lu Fangning. She schemes her way to his life and they finally become husband and wife. Lu Fangning eventually realizes the error in her ways and strives to be better. However, keeping a marriage is not as easy as it seems. (Source: ChineseDrama.info)

I’ve just started watching Begin Again (2020), I’m on episode 3 out of 35 episodes. Honestly, 35 episodes? I don’t know. That seems…. excessive. The thing that interested me the most about this Chinese drama is that it’s based on a lakorn, Samee Ngern Phon or The Bought Husband. I like it so far, and plan to finish it, but other than that, I don’t have much to say.

What’s Next? Invisible Life (2020)

Another Chinese drama that I’m looking forward to is Invisible Life (2020), which stars famous Hong Kong actor Hawick Lau (Sealed with a Kiss, Lady & Liar ) and Chen Du Ling (Another Me (2019)). Invisible Life (2020) follows a relationship between a boss and his employee from the beginning until marriage and beyond. The dramas starts on December 9, and should have 40 episodes. This Hunan TV drama should be up on youtube and viki so it should be English subbed.
